Rangers’ match against Motherwell has been moved forward 24 hours to Saturday to give Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s side an extra day to prepare for their Europa League semi-final.

Rangers travel to Germany on Thursday, April 28 for the first leg of their semi-final against RB Leipzig. Ibrox will host the second leg on May 5.

A spokesperson for the SPFL said: “We received a request from Rangers to bring forward their game away to Motherwell, which was scheduled for Sunday 24 April, to the previous day, giving Rangers more time to prepare for their Europa League semi-final against RB Leipzig.

“We are very pleased to be able to accommodate this request and the Motherwell v Rangers game will now be rescheduled to Saturday 23 April, with a 12 noon kick-off.

“We would like to record our sincere appreciation to Motherwell FC, Sky Sports and Police Scotland for accommodating this change, and wish Rangers the very best of luck in their European campaign.”

Motherwell drew against Rangers when the two teams met last month. Van Bronckhorst’s side let a two-goal lead slip to draw 2-2.

Jordan Roberts’ and Kaiyne Woolery’s second-half goals cancelled out the Bevis Mugabi own goal and Fashion Sakala’s goal in the opening 24 minutes.

Rangers sit second, six points behind Celtic who are top of the Scottish Premiership with 82 points. Motherwell are sixth with 40 points.

If Van Bronckhorst’s side are victorious on the European stage, they will face Lyon or West Ham in the Europa League final on May 18.
