The Panthers have traded wide receiver Robbie Anderson to the Arizona Cardinals in exchange for “undisclosed draft compensation,” the Cardinals announced Monday. Carolina will receive a sixth-round pick in 2024 and a seventh-round pick in 2025 in the deal, a league source told The Athletic.

The move by Arizona comes after receiver Marquise Brown reportedly suffered a potentially season-ending foot injury in Sunday’s loss to the Seattle Seahawks, according to ESPN. Brown will reportedly undergo further testing Monday to determine the extent of the injury.

Carolina was actively shopping Anderson, league sources previously said. The move comes less than a day after he was sent to the locker room by interim coach Steve Wilks during Sunday’s loss to the Los Angeles Rams after Anderson appeared to get into a heated disagreement with wide receivers coach Joe Dailey.

Anderson sat by himself on the sidelines following the first confrontation, in which he came face-to-helmet with Dailey in apparent frustration. He was not part of the offense’s between-series meetings, but returned to the game during the last play in the third quarter, before he was sent to the locker room by Wilks when he and Dailey exchanged words a second time.

Anderson joined the Panthers in 2020 under now-fired coach Matt Rhule. He spent four seasons with the Jets prior to joining Carolina’s squad.

Person: It's time for Panthers to move on from Robbie Anderson

Asked about Anderson’s future after the Panthers’ loss on Sunday, Wilks said everyone’s being evaluated.

“It was a sideline-type situation that I felt like I wanted to try to get him in (the locker room) at the moment,” Wilks said. “That’s something that we’ll discuss as we further get into the week.”

Anderson said he was “confused” by the decision to send him off.

“Because I wanna be in the game,” he said. “I’ve never been told in X amount of years to get out (of) the game in the fourth quarter, so I was honestly confused and upset by it as I should be … I don’t see nobody that’s a true competitor that knows the value they bring, and has true passion toward the game, that will be OK with being told not to do something or being taken out of something when they didn’t do nothing wrong.”

Anderson averaged 15.8 yards per catch on 13 receptions and scored one receiving touchdown so far during the 2022 season.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter first reported draft compensation details.
