Seahawks receiver DK Metcalf has a patella injury but “does not need surgery,” coach Pete Carroll said on Seattle Sports radio Monday. Metcalf’s status going forward remains unclear.
The 24-year-old left Seattle’s game against the Chargers on Sunday with the injury and did not return. Carroll said after the game that X-rays on Metcalf’s injured knee were negative. Metcalf had one catch for 12 yards before exiting.

When speaking to reporters Monday, Carroll reiterated he doesn’t “even really have a clue” when Metcalf could return, although the wide receiver plans to try practicing Wednesday.
Asked directly whether it’s fair to say Metcalf is unlikely to play Week 8 against the Giants, Carroll said he wouldn’t make that call right now and wants to leave the team’s options open.

“I know what he wants to do so I’m gonna kind of follow him a little bit on this one,” Carroll said.
Metcalf came into the Week 7 game as the Seahawks’ second-leading receiver with 406 yards and two touchdowns on 30 receptions. Seattle has leaned on Metcalf and Tyler Lockett in the receiving game with new starting quarterback Geno Smith.
The Seahawks won 37-23 against the Chargers, improving to 4-3 on the season.
