The Chiefs placed running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire on injured reserve due to a high ankle sprain, Kansas City head coach Andy Reid said Wednesday. Here’s what you need to know:
- Edwards-Helaire left Sunday’s game against the Chargers after just five offensive snaps.
- The third-year back leads the team’s backfield with 453 yards from scrimmage.
- In other team news, offensive lineman Joe Thuney (ankle) and receiver Kadarius Toney (hamstring) missed Wednesday’s practice.
The Athletic’s instant analysis:
Who will most likely get Edwards-Helaire’s touches
Without Edwards-Helaire, the Chiefs will give the majority of their rushing attempts to rookie Isiah Pacheco, who produced 107 yards in Sunday’s win over the Chargers. Before the team’s practice Wednesday, Reid said the team’s third running back is likely to be five-year veteran Ronald Jones, who could be used in short-yardage situations and inside the red zone. Jones, who joined the team in the offseason on a one-year deal, has yet to play a snap this season. — Taylor
