Update: Neymar will be available for Brazil’s Round of 16 match against South Korea.

Neymar has been ruled out of Brazil’s game against Switzerland due to an ankle injury.

The forward was clearly struggling after his nation’s win in their opening match against Serbia.

Brazil doctor Rodrigo Lasmar has now confirmed Neymar and Danilo will miss their second World Cup game against Switzerland on Monday.

He said: “Neymar and Danilo started treatment yesterday (Thursday) immediately after our game. Today (Friday) in the morning they were reassessed and as we had already advanced in yesterday’s interview, through today’s physical assessment we thought it was important to do an image exam, an MRI so that we had more data on the evolution of the two players.

“The scans showed a lateral ligament injury to Neymar’s right ankle along with a small bone swelling. And a medial ligament injury to Danilo’s left ankle. Players remain in treatment. It is very important for us to be very calm, peaceful, this assessment will be carried out daily so that we have information and make the best decisions based on that.

“We can already say that we will not have the two players for our next game, but they remain in treatment with our objective of trying to recover in time for this competition”.

Lasmar had confirmed after the match that Neymar had sustained a sprained ankle, although Tite, the manager, said he believed the 30-year-old would play again in Qatar.

Brazil’s doctor said: “Neymar has a sprain on the right ankle. We started treatment immediately but we need to wait 24 hours to have a better assessment.

“We have nothing else scheduled. Now we need to wait and we cannot make any premature comments.”

Tite later added: “We are confident that Neymar will continue playing, that he will continue playing in the World Cup.”
