England beat Senegal 3-0 to set up a quarterfinal matchup with France.
Gareth Southgate has admitted England got the “tough” game he expected against the United States on Friday.
England were held to a 0-0 draw in their second game of the World Cup. It was a comedown from the 6-2 win over Iran that kicked off their campaign in Qatar.

And Southgate suggested he was impressed by how his team had shown another side to their game against Gregg Berhalter’s team.
He said: “It was a very tough game, which is what we expected.
“We were always going to find it difficult, coming off the back of such an incredible high (against Iran). And then to play a very athletic team who are very well organised defensively… we had to show a different side tonight.
“We had to show resilience and defend our box more. We got through the first layer of their pressure well but we lacked a bit of zip in the final third.”
England need a draw in their final game against Wales to guarantee a place in the last-16 or a win to secure top spot in Group B.
