Seattle Seahawks linebacker Jordyn Brooks tore his ACL on Sunday in the team’s win over the Jets, according to a team official who was not authorized to speak publicly. Here’s what you need to know:

  • Brooks, 25, was injured in the second quarter of the game. He grabbed his right knee after making a tackle and was helped to the sideline before being carted to the locker room and ruled out for the remainder of the contest with a knee injury.
  • Coach Pete Carroll said on Seattle Sports radio on Monday that Brooks injured his ACL and indicated it was a serious injury.
  • The 2020 first-round pick is third in the NFL with 161 total tackles.

Backstory

Seattle stayed in the playoff hunt with the Week 17 win but, even if it beats the Rams in Week 18, will need help to secure a berth.

How important has Brooks been and who will replace him?

Brooks is third in the NFL with 161 total tackles and second in solo tackles (103). Brooks has also been responsible for calling the defensive plays in the huddle, so Seattle will now hand that responsibility to fourth-year linebacker Cody Barton. Tanner Muse stepped in for Brooks on Sunday and played 18 defensive snaps. Muse, a third-round pick of the Raiders in 2020, will make his first career start in Week 18 against the Rams. — Dugar
