NHL veteran Alex Galchenyuk pleaded guilty to one misdemeanor threatening charge in Scottsdale (Ariz.) City Court on Monday following his arrest in early July. Five charges against Galchenyuk were dismissed — including a disorderly conduct charge and a resisting arrest charge — in court Monday, according to sentencing documents obtained by The Athletic.

Galchenyuk, 29, was sentenced to 30 days of jail time, per the documents. One of his days spent in detention counts as time served, with 27 days being suspended upon successful completion of an alcohol recovery program and 12 months without consuming/possessing alcohol. That leaves two days remaining to be served.

Scottsdale police arrested Galchenyuk on July 9 on a number of charges, including private property hit and run, disorderly conduct, failure to obey, resisting arrest and threatening or intimidating. Regarding the hit-and-run incident, police said that “it was only property damage and no injuries.” Galchenyuk allegedly threatened to kill a police officer and the officer’s family and used a racist slur toward an officer at the time of his arrest, according to a police report detailing the incident.

On July 13, the Arizona Coyotes waived Galchenyuk in order to terminate his contract. Arizona’s decision came less than two weeks after the team signed him to a one-year, two-way contract.

Nine days after his arrest, Galchenyok checked himself into the NHL/NHLPA Player Assistance Program.

“I am beyond embarrassed and disappointed with myself and I feel awful for everyone I have let down,” Galchenyuk said in a statement at the time. “My family was counting on me to be better, the Coyotes and the amazing Coyotes fans deserve better and the brave police officers who risk their lives to keep us safe deserve better. I let them all down with my despicable and disrespectful behavior after drinking alcohol.”

Galchenyuk, the No. 3 pick in the 2012 NHL Draft, has played 11 seasons, including two for Arizona (2018-19 and 2021-22).
