Ben Chilwell could be “in perfect condition” to feature for England at this summer’s European Championship despite enduring an injury-plagued season, according to Chelsea head coach Mauricio Pochettino.
The 27-year-old has been limited to just 13 Premier League appearances in 2023-24 by two separate injuries: a severe hamstring problem sustained in September that sidelined him for three months, and a knee issue picked up in March that required specialist assessment.

But as he nears a return to full fitness for Chelsea, Pochettino believes Chilwell’s recovery could allow him to be a realistic left-back option for England manager Gareth Southgate.
“We need to assess, but maybe for the weekend (against Bournemouth) he can be available and he can grow very quick and be part of the national team,” Pochettino said of Chilwell.
“I think it is possible, he could arrive in perfect condition for the Euros.”

Pochettino said Chelsea would flourish when injury cloud cleared - he was right
Having earlier talked up the chances of Chelsea captain Reece James making a late run into England contention, Pochettino added that he has always been proud to provide players for the national team when working in the Premier League.
“Always – when I arrived at Southampton we were really proud to provide players to the national team because we are so grateful to English football because of the way you have received us, the welcome,” Pochettino added.
“How welcome you make us feel from another country, I think you all try to respect the identity of the countries, the culture and identities of football and English football through the players.
“We love the English culture and in every single club, like in Southampton, then Tottenham. We are grateful through giving the possibility for the England team to have players that get the possibility to play.”
