Aurelien Tchouameni has said that he hates “extremes in everyday life” as he called on everyone in France “to go out and vote” in the upcoming election.

French president Emmanuel Macron, leader of the liberal and centrist Renaissance party, called a snap election on June 10 in response to the National Rally’s victory in the European elections.

The two-round vote will take place on June 30 and July 7. The second round falls between the European Championship quarter-finals and semi-finals and less than three weeks before Paris hosts the 2024 Olympics.

A number of France’s players have been asked about the upcoming election in press conferences. Kylian Mbappe had stated he stands for “diversity, tolerance and respect,” while forward Marcus Thuram called on citizens to vote and “fight every day” to ensure the National Rally, France’s far-right political party, do not gain power when the country goes to the polls.

Real Madrid midfielder Tchouameni echoed a similar sentiment to his team-mates when he was asked about the election ahead of France’s Euro 2024 clash against Poland on Tuesday.

Mbappe calls on young people to vote in French election

He said: “I think that in the group everyone is entitled to their opinion, we’ve had strong messages via Marcus and Kylian, I share their point of view, I hate extremes in everyday life, I’m more for a policy of unity. I urge everyone to go out and vote.

“We’ve talked about the press release, and the subject will come up again. I haven’t spoken to the 25 players. I can’t say we all have the same view of things, I don’t know.”

France manager Didier Deschamps had previously said that his players had “the freedom to say things in their own words, with their own sensitivity”.

France are looking to progress to the knockout stages at the Euros. They are tied with the Netherlands at the top of Group D with four points.

Mbappe didn’t feature in France’s 0-0 draw against the Netherlands and was an unused substitute, having fractured his nose in his nation’s 1-0 victory over Austria. Tchuoameni believes the 25-year-old is eager to feature in their next match.

“I think he wants to play the next game,” he said. “His mask? He’s getting used to it. Maybe he’d like to play without it, but the doctor won’t give him the choice! When he’s on the pitch he’ll bring us a lot.”
