West Ham United have completed the signing of Max Kilman from Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Kilman, 27, joins the east London club for a fee in the region of £40million ($51.2m). He has signed a seven-year contract at the London Stadium through to 2031.

The move sees Kilman reunite with new West Ham head coach Julien Lopetegui, who he worked under during the Spaniard’s 10 months in charge at Wolves during the 2022-23 season.

“It’s an amazing feeling to be a West Ham United player,” said Kilman.

“As soon as I was aware of the interest from the club, it was an opportunity I was keen to pursue, so I couldn’t be more delighted to be here.

“I really enjoyed working with Julen during his time at Wolves — he’s a top-class coach and someone I learned a lot from, and I am confident I will continue to improve as a player under his management here.”

Why West Ham want Max Kilman - and why Wolves are ready to let him go

The Athletic previously reported that Wolves turned down offers from both West Ham and Newcastle United for the defender. The Premier League club also previously turned down a £30m offer from Napoli last summer.

Kilman joined Wolves from Maidenhead United in the summer of 2018. The National League side will now receive around £4m due to the sell-on clause inserted in the deal six years ago.

The centre-back has made 151 appearances for Wolves, scoring three goals. He was named Wolves’ captain in the summer of 2023 following the departure of Ruben Neves.

Last season, Kilman played every minute of Wolves’ Premier League campaign as they finished 14th.
