North Dakota Election Results

President Trump won North Dakota, a typically Republican stronghold. In 2016, he took 63 percent of the vote in 2016, to Hillary Clinton’s 27 percent. Read more

The state’s Republican governor, Doug Burgum, won re-election. His handling of the coronavirus in his state was predicted to influence voters. In recent weeks, North Dakota has had the worst rate of infection in the country relative to its population, and Mr. Burgum has refused to implement a statewide mask mandate. His Democratic opponent, Shelley Lenz, was highly vocal in her criticism of Mr. Burgum’s handling of the virus. But Ms. Lenz, a veterinarian, faced difficult odds: North Dakota has not elected a Democratic governor in nearly three decades.

Representative Kelly Armstrong, a Republican incumbent, held off his Democratic challenger Zach Raknerud, a 26-year-old retail manager, winning the state’s at-large Congressional District. — LUCY TOMPKINS Read less
