El Toro football coach Randall Reynoso has resigned after four seasons.

“The time was right for me to step down at El Toro and pursue other opportunities,” he said Friday. “I always make decisions based on my family and my biggest supporters and this decision reflects what’s best for me and my family.”

“I thoroughly enjoyed my four years,” he added.

The Chargers posted their second consecutive 2-8 finish this past season. They went 0-3 in the Sea View League for the second straight campaign.

Reynoso’s tenure started during the pandemic-shortened 2021 spring season. El Toro finished 3-2, including a win against district rival Trabuco Hills.

In the fall of 2021, the Chargers went 8-3 overall and 2-1 in the Sea View to earn a share of the league title. They fell to Summit 22-21 in overtime in the first round of the CIF-SS Division 5 playoffs.

Reynoso finished with a record of 15-21.

He arrived at El Toro after a two-year stint as Crean Lutheran’s coach.

The Chargers project to be placed in Orange County’s sixth-strongest league next season as the county shifts to a power-ratings system that determines league placement. The league projects to include Troy, Irvine, Sonora, Canyon and Santa Ana.
