Rutgers Football Tales of the Tape: Kaylib Singleton and Jakarrion Kenan

The Scarlet Knights continue to improve the secondary in the Class of 2025.

Rutgers Football landed two cornerback commits over the weekend by the names of Kaylib Singleton and Jakarrion Kenan. Singleton is from Florida and Kenan from South Carolina, both places Rutgers has recruited very well in the Class of 2025.

These two commits fill a rising need on the team as many of the current cornerbacks on the roster are starting to age out. So that begs the question, why did Rutgers pursue these two? What qualities do they possess that might’ve caught the coaches eyes? Here are a few qualities they both have that make the most sense.

1. Speed

As with a few others in this recruitment class, these two can fly down the field, meaning that they can keep pace with most receivers thrown their way. Both Singleton and Kenan ran track in high school. Singleton clocked in at 11 seconds on the 100 meter dash while Kenan ran a 15.89 in the 110 meter hurdles. Speed like this cannot be coached and it is definitely something that can draw a second look from college coaches.

2. Positioning

These two never seem to get caught out of position. In the film that I watched on these two, they rarely ever got fooled by routes or any other kind of trick that was thrown at them. They usually find themselves in good positions when it comes to not getting exposed or burned. Even if they were caught in a bad spot they usually figured out a way to readjust themselves back into a better position. However, they need to focus on working to put themselves in good positions to make plays in the secondary, like interceptions and batted passes. They are good at putting themselves in position to contest the catch and make the tackle but the more flashy part of their game needs work. The fundamentals are there they just need to work on their explosive play ability to truly standout and improve their scouting rating.
