Sporting News shares bowl projections for Rutgers, Big Ten

The publication has Rutgers returning to bowl season!

Sporting News dropped its Big Ten Bowl game predictions a couple days ago and has Rutgers going to a second straight bowl game, like many people are expecting. Bill Bender predicted all the non-college football playoff bowl games and the crystal ball looks good for Rutgers but still might be a little underwhelming.

Bender has Rutgers playing in the Guaranteed rate bowl against West Virginia at Chase Field in Phoenix, Arizona on December 26. Chase Field is the home of the Arizona Diamondbacks of MLB.

This bowl game was the first ever bowl game Greg Schiano coached in as the head coach of the Scarlet Knights. In 2005, this bowl was named the Insight bowl and Rutgers lost their matchup to Arizona State in this game 45-40.

Sporting news also predicted the bowl games of other Big ten programs which are as follows.

  • Detroit Bowl (Ohio vs. Michigan State, Dec. 26)
  • Guaranteed Rate Bowl (Rutgers vs. West Virginia, Dec. 26)
  • Pinstripe Bowl (Louisville vs. Maryland, Dec. 28)
  • Music City Bowl (Wisconsin vs. Tennessee, Dec. 30)
  • Reliaquest Bowl (Nebraska vs. Texas A&M, Dec. 31)
  • Citrus Bowl (LSU vs. Penn State, Dec. 31)
  • Duke’s Mayo Bowl (Miami vs. Iowa, Jan. 3)
  • Holiday Bowl (Pittsburgh vs. Washington, TBD)

Since Michigan, Ohio State, Oregon, and USC are not on here it is easy to believe that Bender has them making the newly expanded 12 team college football playoff.
