Rutgers Football has landed another international prospect to fill a vital role on special teams.

On Wednesday, Irish kicker Jack Scullion shared on Instagram that he will join Rutgers in 2024. He comes to Piscataway with three years of eligibility remaining. Scullion will join the Scarlet Knights for training camp to takeover kickoff duties.

According to multiple reports, Scullion was brought in to replace Jude McAtamney to handle kickoffs. McAtamney signed a free-agent deal with the New York Giants after acting as the kickoff specialist for Rutgers, who also attempted long-range field goals over the course of the season.

Scullion shared a statement on Instagram to announce the news:

“I’m pleased to announce that I have signed for Big 10 D1 college team @rfootball on a full scholarship as a kicker! I appreciate all the support back home from family and friends over the last couple of weeks. I want to say a huge thank you to everyone for their messages of support. I want to say a massive thank you to @tadhgleader of @leaderkicking for the time and effort he has put in since I started. He’s an absolute gentleman. This man changes lives!! I would strongly recommend any young lad to give this a go I want to thank all the coaching staff at Rutgers especially to coach Allen for making me feel so welcome since I’ve been here, I can’t wait to get started #chop”

Rutgers returns All-Big Ten kicker Jai Patel to be the place kicker. He has not handled kickoffs during his career and now, Greg Schiano has filled this role.

The Scarlet Knights have often featured international players on special teams. Ray Guy award winner Adam Korsak was one of the best punters in the nation during his career at Rutgers. Korsak is not playing in the CFL and was replaced by fellow Australian Flynn Appleby.

Schiano has prioritized special teams during his time at Rutgers and that is not changing heading into the 2024 season. The unit is now full with the addition of Scullion.
