Tales of the Tape: Linebacker commit Kamar Archie

I will admit, I have been waiting for awhile for the chance to write this article. Just like how Rutgers fans have been waiting for awhile for Kamar Archie’s official commitment. Things got a little tense there with Clemson and Michigan making a strong last push to land the New Jersey native. Regardless, Archie is committed to play for Greg Schiano and Co. Here are a few elements of his game that we can expect to shine during his time on the banks.

#1 His Physicality

This one might get a reaction that sounds a bit like “Well duh he's a linebacker he has to be physical” and I get that. However, Archie takes it well above and beyond your average high school recruit. He punishes backs that run through his whole and he takes on blocks well to open up opportunities for other teammates. He shows no fear of contact and often goes through blockers to get his man. Rutgers will design schemes so he won’t have to do this every play but it is a nice quality to have.

#2 His Speed

Archie is fast. How fast? He ran at a speed of 21.8 miles per hour during workouts at the hun school last week. The fastest run in former Rutgers star running back Isiah Pacheco’s career clocks in at 20.97 miles per hour. That kind of speed can be used to make fast breaks on ball carriers or track someone down from behind. (Something that he hopefully won’t have to do to much at Rutgers)

#3 His Vision

He has great vision and is great at tracking down ball carriers. Even in the pass game, he flows well with the play, tracking down where the ball is going, and putting himself in position to make a play. He just has a good ability to track the path of the ball
