DAYTONA BEACH SHORES — Two days after he was involved in a road-rage incident, Daytona Beach Shores Public Safety Director Stephan Dembinsky on Tuesday defended what he did.

A police officer for more than 25 years and director for nearly five years, Dembinsky issued a brief statement to the news media, but he refused to answer questions about what happened on State Road 40 Sunday.

He and an Ormond Beach man clashed in a road-rage incident, but witnesses told police that Dembinsky appeared to be the aggressor.

Dembinsky said: “I saw a situation that needed immediate police intervention to protect the citizens of Volusia County, and I took the proper steps to accomplish this.”

The State Attorney’s Office is investigating.
