Going into managed care in order to get prescriptions paid for is not for everyone. For one thing that isn’t the only trade-off. You still have to cough up a monthly payment to the federal government — I think I read $48 per month. Then you are at the mercy of the HMO as to which doctors to see and which hospitals it approves.

On the other hand, if there weren’t a trade-off, then one might be compelled to participate in the government drug plan. Most HMOs would not accept everyone who applied anyway.
