Edward Scott scored 32 points and hit several key buckets down the stretch as visiting Clemson (14-8, 4-7 ACC) dealt Virginia’s NCAA Tournament hopes a serious blow with a 73-64 victory. The Tigers ended a 10-game road losing streak in the league dating to January 2002 and handed Virginia (14-10, 5-7) its second consecutive home loss.

CLEMONS LIFTS MISSOURI

Ricky Clemons didn’t let his off-court problems bother him against Nebraska (9-15, 1-10 Big 12), hitting six of his first eight shots and scoring 20 points in a 67-50 victory by host Missouri (16-6, 7-4). About four hours before game time, the junior guard pleaded not guilty at a brief hearing to a felony charge of choking a woman and refusing to let her leave his apartment. A trial date will be set March 3.

TULANE STOPS USF

Brandon Spann scored 16 points, and Waitari Marsh added 15 to help host Tulane (13-11, 6-5 Conference USA) hang on for a 68-65 victory against South Florida (13-10, 6-6). Jimmy Baxter led USF with 15 points.

SAINT LOUIS PREVAILS

Marque Perry scored 20 points and pulled Saint Louis out of a 10-minute shooting drought as the visiting Billikens (11-12, 5-7 C-USA) held on for a 58-55 victory against Cincinnati (14-8, 6-5). The Bearcats have lost five of six games for the first time under Coach Bob Huggins.

DEPAUL TRIUMPHS

Sam Hoskin had 22 points and 12 rebounds as visiting DePaul (14-8, 6-5 C-USA) beat East Carolina (12-11, 3-9) 77-63.

PROVIDENCE TOPS UM

Ryan Gomes had 20 points and 10 rebounds as host Providence (12-11, 5-7 Big East) beat Miami (10-12, 3-8) 73-63 in a game between teams looking to stay out of the conference’s East Division basement. Darius Rice led UM with 16 points.

HOWARD TOPS FAMU

Ron Williamson scored 19 of his 34 points in the second half, and host Howard (10-13, 8-6 MEAC) overcame poor first-half shooting to beat Florida A&M; (10-12, 7-6) 74-68 in a game postponed from Sunday because of snow. Jermaine Hill led FAMU with 24 points.

NORTH CAROLINA ROMPS

Rashad McCants scored 16 points as host North Carolina (14-11) beat North Carolina A&T; (0-21) 93-57.

KENT STATE DRUBS BUFFALO

Eric Haut ignited an early 13-0 run as host Kent State (18-5, 11-4 MAC) ended a three-game skid by beating Buffalo (4-18, 1-12) 98-55.

JACKSONVILLE FALLS

Nate Williams scored 20 points, and Cedric Patton had 18 off the bench as host Georgia State (11-13, 6-7 Atlantic Sun) edged Jacksonville (12-13, 7-6) 71-69. James Daniels’ 19 points led the Dolphins.
