UPDATED:

With a CD named after a metaphor for Internet privacy, the new Massive Attack album is a little bit unsettling — just as someone hacking into your computer is.

This disc gets off to a great start with “Future Proof.” The next song, “What Your Soul Sings,” seems to be a big hit. But this is mainly because it is sung by Sinead O’Connor. She also appears on two other cuts, “Special Cases” and “Prayer for England.”

While the CD does contain some of the same trademark Massive Attack components, it is a little bit of a surprise to fans. The usual dark and mysterious ambience is still present, but here the echos are brought to the front. This just helps to make the songs quite disturbing. In addition, the guys seem to have added a few Eastern sounds to these songs.

While all nine tracks are significantly different from one another, as a whole they successfully carry the same mood throughout the recording. None are less than five minutes, and after the last song, there is a 13-minute hidden track. All in all, 100th Window is something for fans of experimental music to check out.
