Orange County — A pregnant woman underwent emergency surgery Thursday morning after being shot in the abdomen, according to the Orange County Sheriff’s Office.
The unidentified woman was shot about 8:10 a.m. in Pine Hills near the Central Florida Fairgrounds and Barnett Park.
Cpl. Susan Soto said a passer-by called 911 minutes later, summoning deputies to the corner of Balboa Drive and Roger Babson Road, where the woman was found bleeding from a gunshot wound.
Detectives think the woman, who is four months pregnant, was shot while riding in a black sport utility vehicle. She apparently knows who shot her, Soto said.
At 5 p.m. Thursday, the woman was in the recovery room after surgery at Orlando Regional Medical Center.
“We don’t have any information about the baby,” Soto said. “We probably won’t know anything until tomorrow.”
