We are deep in the political war games this October. We were forewarned that there would be an October surprise by the Democrats. There usually is in a November election. Lo and behold, a scandal just in time to affect an election.
Now there are two sides to what did they know and when did they know it. Hastert claims he knew only of e-mails, not their content. Of course e-mails from congressmen to pages are not forbidden.
Hastert did say that Foley was told to stop. I believe that, knowing Hastert, if he had been made aware of any sexual content in any e-mails, he would have done more at the time. This appears to be the truth.
Make of it what the Democrats will, they want Foley attached to Hastert and Hastert attached to all Republican congressmen. After the election, the truth of all matters and claims will come to the forefront. Meanwhile, any damage control by the Republicans will be overshadowed by the drumbeat of one bad apple kept in the barrel and not thrown out, while in plain view.
Gay bashing or not, the price for silence will be determined at the voting box.
