ORLANDO—The annual Empty Bowls luncheon, designed to raise awareness and money to fight hunger in Central Florida, is planned for next month in Orlando.

The event features a meal of soup, bread and salad and an empty handcrafted bowl for everyone who attends. Local schoolchildren and artists create the bowls as a donation toward the Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida event.

Last year, Second Harvest distributed more than 15 million pounds of food — or 10 million meals — to more than 500 nonprofit agencies in the six-county region.

The luncheon is from noon to 1:30 p.m. Nov. 14 at the Ballroom at Church Street.

Tickets are $25 each, $225 for a table of 10 and $500 for a patron sponsorship.
