Senior Alex Pou has only started one game during his collegiate career. On Saturday against Duke, he will make his second as OL Derrick Morse is suspended for the ACC matchup.
Morse, along with 12 others, will miss the game because of his involvement in the melee during the FIU game last week.
“Ever since spring ball, he’s done extremely well where we can put him in at starter,” offensive line coach Mario Cristobal said. “I don’t see a skip in his beat at all. He’s been playing a lot all year and he brings a lot to the table — it’s a good opportunity for him.”
UM-FIU still up in air
The continuation of the UM-FIU series is still undecided as far as President Donna Shalala is concerned.
Shalala, along with FIU President Modesto Maidique, released a statement on Thursday saying that both parties had met with no conclusion as to whether next year’s Oct. 6 game at the Orange Bowl would be played.
“We had an excellent conversation, and we have no announcement at this time,” the statement read. Neither Shalala nor Athletic Director Paul Dee gave further comments.
