ORMOND BEACH—An official with the Volusia County Democratic Party has filed complaints against the Republican Executive Committee of Volusia County about a Republican Web site that lists recommendations for judicial candidates.

Jean Jenner, chairman of the information-technology subcommittee for the local Democrats, filed complaints with the Ormond Beach police department and the Florida Elections Commission, records show. Her complaints refer to a state law that specifies a political party shall not “endorse, support or assist” any judicial candidate. Although Ormond Beach police took a report, the state commission is usually the agency that investigates election-law violations.

The Republican Web site, as viewed Friday, lists voting recommendations for all the ballot questions and races, including the 7th Circuit judgeship, the Volusia County judgeship and the Florida Supreme Court justices.

Jim Coffield, the Republican committee chairman, said Friday that there had never been complaints when the committee recommended judicial candidates, but he promised to review the matter.
