OAKLAND, Calif. — The Oakland Raiders showed the Arizona Cardinals how to hold on to an early 14-point lead. QB Andrew Walter threw a 32-yard touchdown pass to WR Randy Moss, RB ReShard Lee ran for a 1-yard score in the first quarter and the Raiders overcame five turnovers to win their first game of the season, 22-9 over Arizona on Sunday.

Raiders story line

Moss had his biggest game of the year even though he had a few drops, catching seven balls for 129 yards to help Oakland (1-5) end an 11-game losing streak dating to last season. The Raiders were the league’s last team to win a game this season.

Cardinals story line

After leading 14-0 after the opening quarter only to lose the previous two games, Arizona (1-6) found itself on the other side of the equation this week. Despite getting plenty of help from Oakland with the two interceptions and three fumbles, the Cardinals lost their sixth consecutive game. Arizona could manage only three field goals by K Neil Rackers.

Fantasy figures

Cardinals RB Edgerrin James had just 34 yards on 13 carries.

Cardinals DE Bertrand Berry had 3 sacks and 2 forced fumbles.

Cardinals WR Anquan Boldin caught his 300th career pass in the third quarter in his 47th career game, making him the fastest player to reach the mark, besting Lionel Taylor’s record of 54 games

Injuries of note

Walter left in the third quarter with a hamstring injury but after the game said he would be ready to play next week.

Postgame chat

“It’s a weight off everybody’s shoulders to get a first win. I’m most happy for the guys in the locker room. It’s not about me. It’s about those guys in the locker room. They’ve worked very hard to get some taste of success.” — Raiders Coach Art Shell

“By no means does this set our season on a pedestal. We’ve still got to go out and get some more wins.” — Raiders DT Warren Sapp

“I can’t believe that we’re sitting at 1-6. But we are. Absolutely this is my fault. It’s my job to make sure the ship is being ruddered the right way.” — Cardinals Coach Dennis Green

“I wasn’t prepared for this, man, I really wasn’t. I don’t know what we’re doing now.” — James, who is now questioning his decision to leave the Indianapolis Colts as an offeseason free agent

The last word

The Cardinals fared no better under new offensive coordinator Mike Kruczek, the former UCF head coach.
