The Hurricanes’ recruiting roll continued Thursday night as they landed one of the top prospects in South Florida.

Chaminade-Madonna cornerback Chris Ewald Jr. committed to Miami, announcing his decision on social media.

Ewald, a former Michigan commit, chose the Hurricanes over Georgia.

Ewald is rated a four-star prospect and the No. 21 cornerback in he 2025 recruiting class, according to 247Sports’ recruiting rankings. He is also listed as the No. 169 player in the class.

Ewald is a standout cornerback for the perennial Hollywood powerhouse. Last season, he had  45 tackles, 20 pass breakups and two interceptions. As a sophomore, he had 25 tackles, 12 pass breakups and four interceptions. He was also a MaxPreps Freshman All-American after the 2021 season.

Chaminade-Madonna has sent several players to Miami in recent years, including wide receiver Joshisa “JoJo” Trader and safety Zaquan Patterson in UM’s 2024 recruiting class.

Ewald praised first-year UM cornerbacks coach Chevis Jackson at the Under Armour camp in Miami in March.

“He’s good. He’s a technician,” Ewald said. “I’m still getting to know him … but from what I’ve seen so far, he’s a good coach.”

Ewald is the third cornerback in the Hurricanes’ 2025 class, joining four-star Miami Central prospect Amari Wallace and three-star Alabama native Timothy Merritt.
