Panthers trade for offensive tackle

CHARLOTTE – The Panthers addressed their need at offensive tackle on roster cutdown day by trading for former South Carolina lineman Corey Robinson.

Carolina sent an undisclosed 2020 draft choice to the Lions in exchange for the 6-foot-7, 317-pound Robinson. The Panthers needed more tackle options with projected starters Matt Kalil and Daryl Williams saddled with injuries and with guard Jeremiah Sirles - who had been filling in at tackle – also injured.

The Lions selected Robinson, a native of Havelock, N.C., in the seventh round of the 2015 NFL Draft after he started 35 games at left tackle over his final three seasons with the Gamecocks. He started three games at right tackle in 2016, and after beginning 2017 on injured reserve he returned midseason to start five games. Robinson started at right tackle and at both guard spots after returning from foot surgery.
