Boston the City of Champions: Are we still Title Town?

Boston has had many nicknames, but only one brought sports fans immeasurable pride: Title Town.

The moniker came from the sheer supremacy Boston's sports teams have shown over the past century and the amount of championships captured by these teams.

The Boston Red Sox, the Boston Celtics, the New England Patriots and even the Boston Bruins have all won multiple championship titles, lending legitimacy to the city's nickname.

However, there has been a bit of lull with Boston's sports teams, with the most recent title wins being in 2018, more than five years ago, from the Patriots and the Red Sox, respectively.

With the Celtics on the verge of winning the NBA finals against the Dallas Mavericks and grabbing that 18th banner, Boston might finally be able to take back its lofty epitaph.

When was the last time the Celtics won a championship?

The Celtics haven't won the NBA Finals since 2008, despite having 17 titles, which ties them for the most in league history with rivals the Los Angeles Lakers.

How many championships have Boston professional teams won?

The Bruins have won six championships, the Celtics have won 17, the Red Sox have won nine and the New England Patriots have won six. That is a total of 38 championships among Boston sports teams.

Boston vs New York: Here's how the championships stack up

Boston has 38 championships spread across the Bruins, Patriots, Celtics and Red Sox.

New York has 54 titles total, 27 of which are MLB World Series championships.
