A dramatic surge in gambling advertising across media channels is sparking widespread concern by gambling harm support services and members of the public about the potential impact, particularly on young people.

As it stands, there are very few rules and regulations on the advertising of gambling products and services in Aotearoa New Zealand.

We want to change that. And for very good reason.

We are seeing more advertising than ever before – online, in print, on TV and on the radio. Social media influencers are promoting gambling, and we have television announcers reading the odds before and after sports games.

The research is really clear – gambling ads are harmful, particularly for kids and young adults.

Our friends across the Tasman are a good example of the impact gambling advertising has had on young people.

In Australia, three in four kids now think gambling is a normal part of sport. The more gambling ads kids see, the more likely they are to gamble. Yet a 13-year-old today has never even seen a game without gambling ads.

We need to call time on gambling ads. Please sign our petition this Gambling Harm Awareness Week!
