ALLENDALE, S.C. – Funeral services for Herbert Raymond Drayton Jr. will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 30, at Allendale Elementary School Gymnasium, Highway 278 in Allendale, S.C. Burial will follow in Ervington Baptist Church Cemetery, also in Allendale, S.C. Mr. Drayton will lie in state beginning at 11 a.m. Saturday.

Mr. Drayton died Wednesday, Sept. 20, 2006, in Sentara Hospital Complex, Hampton, Va.

ALFONSO ‘ALEX’ GWALTNEY

SALISBURY, MD. – Alfonso “Alex” Gwaltney, 34, husband of Melissa Gwaltney and son of Ida Mae Gwaltney and Leroy Jones, died Saturday, Sept. 23, 2006. Arrangements by Lewis Watson Funeral Home, Salisbury, Md.

BEATRICE P. HEARN

GLOUCESTER – Mrs. Beatrice P. Hearn, a lifetime resident of Gloucester County, departed this life on Monday, Sept. 25, 2006.

She was a member of Rising Valley Baptist Church and active in several ministries of the church and the Church Mother. She was a member of the Gloucester Branch of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People.

Treasuring her memory are her daughter, Eloise H. Smith (William D.); grandchildren, Kevin D. Smith, Karen A. Smith (Don) and Keith A. Smith; nephew, William H. Palmer; nieces, nephews, numerous relatives and friends; also the Rising Valley Baptist Church Family and extended family, the Diggs, Rice and Carter families.

A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 30, in Rising Valley Baptist Church, James Store, Va., with the Rev. Darry O. Echols, Pastor, officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 7 to 8 p.m. Friday at Howard Funeral Home. Mrs. Hearn will be placed in the church at noon Saturday.

The family will assemble at the church at 12:30 p.m.

MICHAEL CURTIS MEDLIN

NEWPORT NEWS – Michael Curtis Medlin, 45, died Friday, Sept. 15, 2006.

A native of Newport News, he had resided in Texas for the last 25 years.
