James Donald Hague, Jr. OBITUARY

James Donald Hague, Jr., 87 of Virginia Beach, VA passed away in his sleep August 1, 2024. Jimmy was born in Brighton, NY on February 3, 1937 to James Donald and Olive “Sallie” Hague. He lived in many military towns in NY, PA, IL, and NC before settling in Virginia Beach, VA with his family. He graduated from Virginia Beach High School and from Washington and Lee College. He received his Masters from Old Dominion University and attended Seminary in Baltimore, MD. He became a teacher and taught locally at Blair Middle and ODU. He was in the Naval Reserves for eight years after joining in 1954. Jim was a Past Master of Harmonic Masonic Lodge #356 EC and member of the The York Rite, The Shrine, the Rotary Club, Knights of Columbus at Holy Family Church in St. Thomas, USVI and member of Star of the Sea Church in Virginia Beach.

Jim generously shared his genealogical insights, stories and cherished family heirlooms with family. He embraced the vibrant island life on St. Thomas, sharing his love of delicious meals, stunning beaches and joyful Christmas tree trimming parties with loved ones and friends at Estate Harmony. With a heart full of love of family and for the holiday season, he and his husband, Lou returned to the states to reside near his cousin Darlene in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, a fitting location for the man known as Santa Baby. He embarked on his final move to Atlantic Shores in Virginia Beach where he enjoyed Ocean Eddie’s fried oysters prepared by his nephew, Baxter.

Jim was preceded in death by his mother and father and his brother, Michael Arnold Hague. Left to honor his memory are his husband, Hamilton Lewis (Lou) Jones, brother and his wife Bruce and Sandra Hague, nephew Leigh and his wife Noelle, nephew Jeff and his wife Debbie Lou, nephew Philip Sandoval and nephew David Sandoval, a niece Jill and husband Curtis Gifford and cousins Darlene, Gail and Gary. He also leaves behind great nephews, James Hague, Parkerson Hague, William B. Hague, Christian Hague, Quinn Gifford and nieces Taylor Hux, Shannon Gifford and a great-great niece Nahaley “Niya” Hague.

A Mass will be held at Star of the Sea Catholic Church on Thursday, September 5th at 11:00 am with Internment following at Princess Anne Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to The Star of the Sea Church in Virginia Beach, Holy Family Church in St. Thomas, The Center for Independent Living in St. Thomas or Virginia Beach Rescue Squad.
