Drucilla Sawyer Simonds “Drue” born August 4, 1945, passed away suddenly on August 1, 2024. She was preceded in death by her parents Aubrey Woodford Sawyer and Frances Virginia Sawyer. She is survived by her former husband William J Simonds, her son Aubrey, his wife Beth, grandchildren Adam (Christine) and Holly, one greatgrandchild James, and her faithful kitty Brooklyn.

Drue was born in Portsmouth, VA and graduated Woodrow Wilson High School Class of 1963. She attended Old Dominion College and later Tidewater Community College. Drue worked in the Civil Service for Base security at Naval Station Norfolk. For many years Drue was active in the Portsmouth chapter 966 of the Women of the Moose. Where she held leadership and mentoring rolls. Drue valued the many occasions that she spent with her cousins and close friends and family. In 2003 Drue suffered a stroke, but with the support of her family she rehabilitated and was able to retire from civil service and live independently the rest of her days.

Services for Drue will be held on Friday, August 16, 2024 at 1:00pm in the chapel of Snellings Funeral Home, 1144 George Washington Hwy N, Chesapeake, VA 23323. Condolences to the family may be offered at:
