Stanton will be out at least a month as Davis enters the fold; Brubaker made a rehab start; Rice’s father is rather proud of the rookie first baseman

New York Post | Jon Heyman: It looks like the best-case scenario for the Yankees and slugger Giancarlo Stanton is that he’ll miss about four weeks with the hamstring injury he suffered running the bases on Saturday. There’s no way to sugarcoat the loss for New York, as Stanton was a legitimate power threat this season, one who lengthened the lineup considerably. Now we wait and see how the Yankees adjust to his absence and what the offense does without him.

Stanton was officially placed on the IL with Oswald Peraza coming up from Triple-A to replace him. However, it seems that this was always going to be a short-lived stint, as manager Aaron Boone had hinted about Peraza just being a day player. Indeed, right around first pitch, news came out that the Yankees had acquired erstwhile infielder J.D. Davis from the A’s in a small trade. As such, Peraza went right back down. Check out Kunj’s post for more, and look for Davis to make his Yankees debut against his old team, the Mets, on Tuesday in Queens.

CBS Sports: Speaking of injury, right-hander JT Brubaker made his first rehab start a few days ago. It was his first appearance in almost two years after undergoing Tommy John surgery. Brubaker pitched at Low-A and hurled three innings, striking out two and allowing no runs. He’s still got a way to go, but it looks like Brubaker, who the Yankees acquired from Pittsburgh, could be a second half rotation option if everything goes well.

New York Post | Steve Serby: Ben Rice recently made his Yankees debut and his father is rather proud of him. Ben’s dad Dan reminisces about Ben’s path to The Show in this piece from the Post. My inner Canadian is quite happy about the the tidbit that Ben’s path to athletics began on the ice, strapping on a pair of skates at the precocious age of two. But my quite obvious inner Yankees fan is thrilled to now see Ben plying his trade in the Bronx while Anthony Rizzo recovers.
