There are many reasons not to keep a classroom 'pet,' but the bottom line is this—animals are individuals who deserve our respect 💜 Keeping animals caged in a classroom, where their natural cycles are disturbed and their needs can't be fully met, sends a message to students that their lives aren't important and that they are ours to use. Extend the Golden Rule to animals, and get a classroom plant instead!
