Biden campaign to bring in $28M at star-studded LA fundraiser

The predicted sum would break Democratic fundraising records as the largest single-night haul for a Democratic candidate.

President Joe Biden is on track to break Democratic fundraising records with a star-studded event in Los Angeles on Saturday night, with his campaign confirming that he’ll raise at least $28 million.

The haul from the swanky Hollywood event — featuring a conversation between Biden and former President Barack Obama, moderated by late night host Jimmy Kimmel — will likely bolster Biden’s cash totals in June, after fundraising across his entire political operation slowed in April.

A source familiar with the totals said the event will ultimately raise more than $28 million.

Donald Trump’s campaign has worked to close a cash advantage Biden built earlier this year, aided by the former president’s own blockbuster fundraising after his felony conviction in New York City last month. Trump’s campaign said it raised $141 million in May, though those totals haven’t been confirmed in Federal Elections Commission filings. The Biden campaign hasn’t yet released its May fundraising totals.

For Biden, a similar fundraising extravaganza in New York City that featured Biden, Obama and former President Bill Clinton, helped him post strong fundraising totals earlier this spring. That event ultimately raised $26 million, the largest single-night haul for a Democratic candidate so far. Now, Saturday’s event is expected to eclipse that total.

In addition to the Biden and Obama conversation, the Los Angeles fundraiser will also feature actors George Clooney, Julia Roberts, Jason Bateman, Jack Black, Kathryn Hahn and Sheryl Lee Ralph.

“This Saturday we are going to see an unprecedented and record-setting turnout from the media and entertainment world,” said Biden’s campaign co-chair Jeffrey Katzenberg in a statement. “The enthusiasm and commitment for Biden/Harris couldn’t be stronger.”
