We think it's safe to say we're a nation of crisp lovers – and whether your preference is plain or pickled onion, a top 20 list announcing the UK's favourite is bound to be divisive.

According to new research by Insights Agency, Perspectus Global, from a survey based on 2,000 Britons, Walker's Cheese and Onion emerged victorious as the nation's most loved packet of crisps.

In second place came beef flavoured Monster Munch (also made by Walkers), with 34 percent, followed closely by Walkers Salt and Vinegar (31 percent).

Other Walkers flavours to make the final top twenty were Ready Salted, which came in fifth place with 27 percent of the vote – and Prawn Cocktail in 16th place.

  7. Bacon Frazzles – 20 percent

  9. Skips – 19 percent
  10. Monster Munch (pickled onion) – 18 percent
  11. Quavers – 18 percent
  12. Doritos (cool original) – 17 percent
  13. Pringles (sour cream and chive) – 15 percent
  14. Pringles (salt and vinegar) – 15 percent
  15. Doritos (tangy cheese) – 12 percent
  16. Walkers (prawn cocktail) – 11 percent
  17. Nik Naks (nice‘n’spicy) – 10 percent
  18. Scampi fries – 10 percent
  19. Wotsits – 9 percent
  20. Hoola Hoops (salt and vinegar) – 8 percent

Ellie Glason from Perspectus Global, which carried out the study said “Brits are a nation of crisp lovers, so we thought it would be interesting to see which brands and flavours we love the most.

"It’s great to see that while more modern snacks such as Pringles and Doritos are popular, we clearly still love many of our childhood favourites."

Meanwhile, Morrisons has announced that it is launching the UK's official best Christmas crisps this week. Morrisons Aberdeen Angus Steak and Truffle crisps were voted Britain’s best at the annual Quality Food Awards.
