Are you in a loop of self-blame, regret, or anxiety over how events in your life have gone or are going? Would those close to you say you "have it together" but, deep down, circumstances have left you feeling "not good enough"? Has the shame or disappointment eroded trust in your ability to make confident decisions for your relationships, your job, your life direction? Whether symptoms began due to unfortunate luck, a traumatic event, relationship breakdown, etc., I help identify patterns keeping you stuck and offer solution-focused, evidence based strategies to address anxiety, self-doubt, indecision, PTSD, and codependency.

Having worked with a wide range of diagnoses in the past, my areas of specialty are anxiety, attachment, relationship issues, and self-esteem, though I have experience with ADHD, codependency, depression, addictions, personality disorders, and stress.
Hello! I'm glad you stopped by, because I know that seeking out help during difficult times can be intimidating. Right off the bat, I want to let you know that I would love to meet with you and talk about what you're going through. My goal is to provide a warm environment where we can work together on your goals. Ideally, you would come with a willingness to share about what's bothering you, and an openness to trying some new things. In return, I commit to helping you set meaningful goals and identify the blind spots that might be holding you back.

I work with people who want to change their patterns of behaving and their responses to triggers. Their goals are to navigate hard seasons, heal through trauma, find relief from stress/burn-out, and foster healthier relationships. Many of my clients struggle with anxiety/panic, depression, managing hard emotions (like anger), perfectionism/the need to achieve, low self-worth, and codependency/boundary-setting. As a first generation Canadian Filipina, I often see BIPOC folks wanting a therapist who understands what it's like to navigate one's life, identity, and trauma, while holding two cultural identities.

Change can be scary but even small changes can make a big difference. I offer you a safe space where change can happen at your own pace & where you can bring your problems, fears or pain to work through in a supportive environment. The addiction, stress, anxiety, depression, trauma, PTSD, phobia, etc., can be the initial thing that brings you into therapy, but we won’t just put a band-aid on the symptom. We will get to the underlying root of the problem & heal it where it started. I use the word “we” because it is a collaborative venture, we work together to create change. I work with both individuals & couples. (Ask me about EMDR).

What therapy types help with codependency problems?

Both couples and family therapy and cognitive and behavioral therapy (CBT) can help with the relationship difficulties referred to as codependency. Such problems typically include inappropriate feelings of responsibility for a loved one’s destructive behavior, irrational patterns of thinking about such behavior, and family interaction patterns in which the needs of one troubled member override the needs of others in a household.

What happens in therapy for codependency?

Spouses and family members learn and practice how to interact and support each other in a healthy way without sacrificing their own needs or well-being. They learn the limits of their responsibility for their loved ones and correct faulty patterns of thinking and feeling that underlie codependent behavior. Individuals may be encouraged to nurture an array of social relationships and to cultivate their own talents and interests so that they develop a healthy sense of self outside the family.

How does therapy help a person or couple overcome codependency?

Therapy helps people establish healthy ways of being in a relationship. Spouses and family members learn how to nurture and support one another without sacrificing their own needs or allowing the needs of one person to dominate the dynamic. Individuals learn how to say no and set boundaries, and how to maintain their own identity and self-esteem. Therapy helps people understand that they are not responsible for the feelings and actions of others. It also helps individuals deal with the turbulence that can come from living with a person suffering from such conditions as substance abuse and mental illness.

What is the goal of therapy for codependency?

One goal of therapy for codependency is to alleviate feelings of responsibility for and correct irrational patterns of thinking about loved ones whose behavioral problems override the needs of others in a household. Therapy helps people establish healthy boundaries of behavior and speak up for their own needs in a relationship. In addition, people learn how to maintain a healthy relationship, one in which both parties give and receive equally and are able to retain their own identity.
