I draw from trauma-informed training, mindfulness teachings (includes CBT/ DBT/ACT), somatic practices, harm reduction principles, attachment theory, and internal family systems concepts to guide my work.
Let's start by being human together, and acknowledge the difficulties of being human in this modern world. We might begin to feel less-than human when we are worn down, let down, rejected, or taken for granted. The heart, body, mind, and spirit suffer in response. I want to support you to feel more human, more alive and aligned with the life you want, and more capable of showing up for yourself and others. But more than that, I want to support you to feel accepted and connected, in whatever way you might be experiencing life's challenges.

I work from a trauma informed framework using emotion-focused and relational approaches, attachment modalities, strength-based solution-focused therapies, CBT, DBT, ACT, as well as somatic and mindfulness-based skills to create meaningful shifts - always with compassion and a sprinkling of humour!.
I ground my approach in the transformative power of human connection and relationships, working with individuals and couples. I believe that our wellbeing is shaped by what we've learned and experienced while moving through life, and by the ways we consciously and unconsciously relate to these experiences, to ourselves, and to others. I aim to help you transform painful or challenging emotions, understand your patterns, create healthy boundaries, and develop skills for authentic and effective communication, deep connection, and fulfilling relationships.

As a neurodivergent and highly sensitive person, I understand what it is like to experience the world with greater intensity. My person-centered approach situates the client as their own expert, with myself as the guide towards a variety of counselling goals such as increased self-awareness and insight, building a toolkit of skills or unlearning maladaptive ways of feeling, thinking and responding. Utilizing mindfulness, somatic, cognitive, emotionally focused, dialectical behavioral, harm-reduction and narrative techniques, I strive to help clients 10 and up regain agency through acceptance and management.

My approach is mostly influenced by Narrative therapy, Dialectical Behavioural Therapy ( DBT), and an approach of justice-doing.
Do you struggle with big feelings that get in the way? Do you want to learn practical skills to reduce suffering, improve relationships, tolerate distress, and live in the present moment? I believe that every person is wise and has the capacity for wisdom. Sometimes, things get in the way of accessing that guiding wisdom, and sometimes we can be tricked into thinking we aren’t capable of accessing this wisdom, or even that it doesn’t exist at all for us. Together we can explore what is getting in the way of you living the life you want to live and discover effective and practical ways you can access your wise self.

Narrative Therapy, DBT, and Writing methodologies sometimes used.
I support clients managing emotional challenges, BPD traits, depression, OCD, perfectionism, negative internal dialogue, addiction, grief, trauma, and difficult family dynamics. Together we explore a client's history, experience, emotions, and develop better skills for managing challenges. Often old coping strategies are no longer serving the client. Developing relational intimacy with others, and more compassionate communication with self is integral to my work with individuals and families. Together we find solutions for healing and moving forward in healthy ways so clients can align more authenticly with themselves.

Dialectical Behavior (DBT) Counsellors

Who is DBT for?

Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) is designed for people who experience extreme emotional suffering because they lack the skills of emotion regulation and distress tolerance. The basic affliction can underlie a wide range of conditions, from borderline and other personality disorders to PTSD and treatment-resistant anxiety and depression. The therapy is helpful to those whose emotional reactivity is so intense it is disruptive to everyday functioning and leads to frequent crises.

Why do people need DBT?

The ability to regulate emotions is a core psychological skill that enables people to function in life and pay attention to the world outside themselves; it is consistently associated with well-being. DBT is designed to help people learn how to manage and regulate their emotions. Originally developed to treat people with borderline personality disorder whose extreme emotional suffering led to self-harming behaviour and suicide attempts, the therapy is now applied to other conditions involving emotion dysregulation, particularly when other treatments have failed.

What happens in DBT?

Individuals meet weekly with their therapist to discuss their experiences relating to moods, behaviour, and skills. Using checklists they maintain, they review emotional experiences and positive practices they engage in. The diaries help individuals discern what led up to a specific problem encountered, this is followed by discussion of the consequences of their actions. In addition, individuals may meet in class-like small groups to learn skills such as mindfulness, emotion regulation and distress tolerance.

How long does DBT last?

Because it is intended to establish long-lasting behavioural change among those with persistent problems, DBT is designed to last six months to a year. DBT includes both weekly sessions of individual therapy and weekly skills-training sessions conducted in small groups. Studies of DBT have documented improvement within a year of treatment, particularly in controlling self-harmful behaviour; nevertheless, individuals may require therapy for several years.
