I work intergratively and collaboratively, that is to say I draw on different psychological therapies, including CBT, Narrative and Attachment ideas and techniques, depending on the challenges and stories brought into the therapy room by the client(s). I work within an overarching Systemic framework which pays special attention to supporting individuals, couples and families to find the strengths of their relationships so as to make disturbing symptoms less problematic. It is not just about problems however, Systemic therapy is built on a bedrock of hope, focusing on resilience and resourcefulness.

It helps to talk, especially if you are feeling worried, sad, fearful, or perhaps just stuck. Talking with an attentive listener, in a confidential environment, offers a unique space for different ways of thinking and being to emerge, through examining your life and relationships, past and present. Sometimes you may need to speak about particular difficult experiences and emotions - but it's not always clear what is troubling us. Psychoanalytic psychotherapy recognises that as well as our conscious minds, we also live in the unconscious and don't always understand the cause of our suffering - or indeed what is our potential.

Sometimes our problems feel too huge or too painful, sometimes they feel too small to believe they will be taken seriously. Sometimes they just feel too weird, or embarrassing. I welcome you wherever you find yourself, without judgment or expectation. As we work together to unpick the issues you feel are in question, my hope for you is that you will make new discoveries about your sense of yourself. We will explore your present experience, bring your patterns of relating into your awareness, tracing how your past impacts your present, so that you can find your own unique way through the maze and noise, rebuilding your self-love.

Life can be tough. But therapy can offer you a unique opportunity for your voice to be heard - for your pain to be acknowledged. I provide a compassionate, safe space where you can share your experiences without shame or fear of judgement. You may be struggling with anxiety, depression, loss or trauma. You may be at a crossroads in your life and have no idea which way to turn. You may be confused about who you are - to yourself or to others. Whatever the issue, I believe that the therapeutic relationship can be used to explore difficult thoughts and feelings and help deepen your understanding of yourself and the world.

My ideal client is one that recognises that they do not have to deal with life alone. Understanding the strength in seeking guidance and support from therapy is where the work begins and it allows the creation of a safe space to think about you. One way I work is to help build an individual’s sense of self that allows them to acknowledge their own needs and helps them navigate life and its difficulties. I have experience working with diverse groups whether that be in age or culture and have worked with a variety of issues.

Do you ever spend time worrying about things you have said or done in a meeting? to a friend? to your boss? Do you ever get trapped in self-critical thinking - where after a mistake you constantly berate yourself? Do you ever wake up in the night or when your trying to do something important and you can't control negative thoughts? Are you going through a period of transition and feeling stressed, confused or lost? I've always been fascinated by the power of the brain - how it can work for us and against us. With over 7 years of experience, I've witnessed first-hand how our mindset can either lift us up or hold us back.

Female Counsellors
Does it matter what gender my therapist is?
In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.
Should I see a female therapist?
Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.
Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?
Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.
How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?
It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
