Janus is a company that specialises in drug and alcohol treatment that steers away from the language of addiction, sickness, illness, dependency and disease. Janus believes that this terminology can become disempowering, at times leaving the client feeling at a loss as to how to move forward. Janus uses it's own unique approach called: The Resonance Factor, that focuses on the relationship someone constructs with their substance/s of choice. Janus believes that in the same way someone can construct a relationship with substances - he or she can deconstruct that relationship. Our service is about creating change in the individual. It is designed for individuals that wish to stop using substances; wish to rebuild relationships; wish to re-engage with life - be it work, study and physical and emotional well-being. Janus will work with you to accomplish your goals, but you, the client, have to be at the forefront of your own treatment.
Jennifer Jordan: BSc (Hons), Dip Coun, Dip Sup and Kenneth Robinson: BSc (Hons) MSc (Addict Behav) are the two Directors at Janus Solutions, and have, combined, over 40 years experience of working in the field of substance use. They are co-authors of The Resonance Factor: Challenging the Myth of Addiction (2007) and Crack Cocaine: The open door. Both these books are very well received and considered thought provoking. Both books very much examine the client from a 'change' perspective. Janus is about - "What do I need to do to address and change the behaviours in my life in order to get to where you need to get to!". And from the perspective of drug and alcohol treatment we are referring to transition from the consumption of substances to not consuming substances.
Our service revolves around our approach The Resonance Factor. The Resonance factor says that the substance user forms a relationship with the mind-altering affects of their substance use. That as a consequence the substance users behaviour will have to adjust to accommodate the individuals substance using. As a consequence the individual has to thoroughly understand that relationship and must strive to address his or her behaviour and thinking that legitimates the substance users behaviours. This requires challenging interpersonal work. Hence our service, even though in the community is: 7 days per week, has novel interventions such as evening telephone support and you have the provision of both a counsellour and substance misuse specialist. The sessions are group and 1:1 based, accompanied by complementary therapies, all of which embrace our Resonance Factor approach. This is a programme that is designed to challenge the way you think!
