I am interested in the connection with mind and body and work with anxiety, depression, chronic illness, relational issues, self-esteem and trauma.
Life can provide many challenges, which may prevent us from living our lives to the full. Psychotherapy provides a way of exploring thoughts, emotions and behaviours, many of which may be unconscious, that adversely impact our day to day lives. Behaviours that may have once served us well, may now be hindering our lives and relationships in the present. By understanding ourselves more fully, we can enrich our lives and relationships. Psychotherapy is a gift to ourselves.

Life can feel overwhelming and sometimes goes differently than planned. It throws us unexpected curveballs, leaving us feeling anxious, depressed, sad, bewildered, grieving, and confused. In those times, it can feel like we are at a crossroads—not knowing which path to choose. Talking with a nonjudgmental and empathetic therapist can be an important first step towards healing and clarity. I provide relational and emotion-focused psychotherapy to individuals who would like support during difficult times to make sense of their emotions, experiences, and way of being in the world.

"Using a combination of therapeutic approaches, I help clients deal with the issues that cause them to feel trapped in their lives – the hurts, frustrations and expectations that lead to depression and anxiety.
There are times in life when we all need someone to talk to, who will not judge us or make us feel ashamed. I seek to provide a place where women and men are able to process the disappointments of life that lead to unhelpful behaviours and difficult relationships. In my work with couples and individuals, I provide a safe environment where both people can explore the issues that have caused them to build walls rather than bridges between them. I have years of experience helping clients to identify the triggers for unhelpful and destructive behaviours and offer ongoing support to choose new directions and pathways towards their goals

As Bessel van der Kolk notes, trauma is specifically an event that overwhelms the central nervous system, altering the way we process and recall memories. “Trauma is not the story of something that happened back then," he adds. "It's the current imprint of that pain, horror, and fear living inside people.” I am a well-established health professional who has dedicated my professional life working on releasing trauma in a natural, nurturing way, returning my clients to their natural state of wholeness. I call this "The Journey Home". I work from a neuroscience perspective. Harmonizing all aspects of our being Mind, Body and Soul

Anxiety, depression, family issues, and relationship issues are the most common problems people bring to me.
My approach is optimistic and creative Whilst problems can be serious and painful, I intend that our conversations will be uplifting. ‘Problem stories’ can become overwhelming and it can be almost impossible to separate ourselves from them. This is where narrative therapy comes in. Together, we will disentangle problems stories and you will step into new, life-giving stories. I have been trained for the last 22 years by one of the world's best-known therapists. I taught counselling at postgraduate level for ten years, I have published widely about my work and give regular workshops and trainings. You are in good hands with me.

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioural therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioural Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
