As a first-time mom myself, I know parenthood can be a daunting task, especially as your own body changes and you begin to feel that new life moving inside of you. In this open group, we will bond as pregnant people, gain comfort and understanding of our changing bodies, and learn how to connect with and sense the babies inside of us, all through a combination of verbal- and movement-based explorations.

DO YOU FIND YOURSELF THINKING... "I wish I hadn't reacted that way. I feel like I am giving too much of myself to others. I feel burnt out. I wish I had a stronger sense of self. I've heard about intergenerational trauma, but I'm not sure what that might look like." If any of those statements sounded familiar, then you're in the right place. I'm here to help you explore those thoughts and behaviors in a trauma-informed, creative, and individualized way. Let's get curious together.

Addiction can be crippling not only for the individual, but also for their loved ones. We strive for progress, not perfection. The greatest success in the process of recovery comes from being involved with the culture of sobriety and dedication of others that will support you.

We base our evaluations on the individual. A specific diagnosis along with treatment recommendations is offered. Encountering issues with alcohol or other drugs does not necessarily warrant a diagnosis for chemical dependency. While in the process of recovery we help you determine your life goals and ambitions. It is easy to get "clean and sober" and it is difficult to stay "clean and sober". That's why you can count on us to walk with you on the journey of maintaining a life of sobriety and freedom.

On the 3rd Friday of every month, I offer one-time telehealth appointments for letters in support of gender affirming care to adult (18+) individuals. I offer sliding scale pricing ranging from $40 to $100 because even within the LGBTQ+ community we each have different lived experiences around finances and other systems of oppression. These appointments are a good fit for people who are not interested in ongoing therapy and just need a letter from a mental health professional in support of the care they are seeking.

Accepting new clients! I'm queer and specialize in supporting LGBTQ+ and/or non-monogamous adults around trauma, family of origin issues, gender affirming care, and anxiety, including OCD. Before therapy, many of my clients think: Being in my head is stressful- there are things I'm afraid of talking about, or even thinking about. My past is still affecting me. Setting boundaries can feel really hard. Sometimes I have nightmares or flashbacks of things I've been through. If that sounds like you, I can help. Therapy can be a safe, non-judgmental space to make sense of your experiences and create meaningful change in your life.

This may not be the time or place you thought or wanted to be in your life right now, and that can be a sad, frustrating and heartbreaking reality. In that reality, you need someone who can listen, understand and help you sift through the problems of a sexual/porn compulsion/addiction and/or the betrayal trauma from the reveal of your partner’s hidden sexual life, and I offer that service. I've worked for the past 8 years with men in their recovery from active sex/porn addiction, and for the past 5 years I've been working with partners/spouses who've been traumatized by such hidden behavior, and its relational damage.

As your therapist, my goal is to create a space where you feel safe and supported on your path of healing and self-discovery. I believe that we each have a unique story and as humans we are capable of holding many conflicting truths. We can love our lives and still experience anxiety and overwhelm from the responsibility of it all. I am here to listen and collaborate, with empathy and without judgment. Together, we can explore how therapy can help you develop deeper understanding and self-compassion, address self-limitations like perfectionism and shame, and discover deeper meaning and purpose from life.

Seeking Safety is an evidence-based, supportive, online therapy group focused on the here-and-now that seeks to build coping skills and develop safety for those seeking to heal from past trauma, reduce or stop using substances, and move forward with their lives. Seeking Safety is a first-stage trauma group, and does not require participants to dive deep into detail or re-tell previous traumas. Instead, the program focuses on envisioning and enacting safety within the self and the environment.

This group will provide a space for members to share and process their trauma experience together to acknowledge our nervous system activation and co-regulate together to rebuild our capacity to experience our sensations, images, behaviors, affects, and meanings associated with the trauma experience. Incorporated both process group method and Somatic Experiencing, I hope to not only explore our relationship patterns and relatedness with others with language, but also experience our nervous system's resonance and regulation. We get to explore how we learn to form relations from our attachment history somatically. Feel free to ask me questions!

Does your child dance to the beat of a different drum? Maybe you’ve watched them struggle to “find their people,” gain acceptance, and hit their stride. They’re sensitive, easily overwhelmed, and anxious. If you’ve been at this for a while, they may already have a diagnosis of ADHD, Autism, PDA, or DMDD. You try so hard to understand your child, but you’re hitting a wall and feeling frustrated. You love them with all of your heart, but parenting feels so complicated. Is it your fault? Are you missing something? You wish you knew so that you could make things better.

FAQs - About Group Therapy and Support Groups

How can I find a support group in Washington?

Search for nearby support groups by inputting your city, zip code, or the name of the group into the search bar. From there, you can filter to find a group that suits your needs, whether you are looking for support for a teenager, a group that focuses on a specific issue, such as depression, or a particular program type, such as one geared toward developing social skills. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

How does group therapy work?

Therapy groups are led by one or more therapists and serve to help people process their experiences and learn from others who understand their challenges firsthand. They can be based on a specific issue, such as addiction, grief, physical illnesses, parenting, and caregiving. They can involve a specific type of program or therapy, such as a social skills group or CBT group. They can also be specific to a particular population or community, such as teens or LGBTQ.

Support groups, like Alcoholics Anonymous, also focus on a specific issue, but are typically led by members with lived experiences and are less structured than therapy groups. Most therapy groups will meet for a fixed length of time with a consistent group of members, while many support groups meet for an indefinite period of time with members coming and going.

What are the benefits of group therapy?

Support groups help connect people with shared challenges or physical and mental health conditions. In a group setting, participants can receive support and feedback from peers and can acquire new skills, strategies and perspectives by listening to one another. Discussing your experience with someone who also has a cancer diagnosis, or whose son also struggles with addiction, for example, can help you feel less alone, reduce distress, find empathy and connection, and learn practical or medical information that has helped others. Group therapy can also be a more affordable option than individual therapy and just as effective.

Is group therapy as effective as individual therapy?

Support groups can be deeply valuable for both emotional support and/or treatment outcomes. It’s difficult to make a blanket statement on efficacy due to the many different types of support groups and conditions treated, but group therapy has been found to be just as effective as individual therapy in establishing long-term abstinence for conditions such as substance abuse, addiction and alcohol abuse.

How much does group therapy cost?

Group counseling is typically less expensive than individual counseling, with each session costing on average between $60 to $75. Meanwhile, individual therapy sessions can run anywhere from $100 to $200 and up, even after insurance. It is possible to find low-cost group therapy options and many therapists offer group sessions free of charge.

Does insurance cover group therapy?

As with individual therapy, many insurance companies do offer coverage for group therapy sessions. However, the coverage varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider. Individuals are encouraged to check with their insurance providers to verify coverage.

How long does group therapy last?

The length of a support group session is often one hour but can fall anywhere between 45 minutes and two hours. The amount of time that people remain in a support group varies based on their specific needs and goals and the type of therapy. Some individuals may seek a shorter-term group, such as a bereavement group, that may last between six and 20 weeks. Some may seek a longer-term group that lasts for a year or indefinitely.

What are the limitations of support groups?

Support groups have many benefits, but there are a few limitations as well. Support groups do not constitute formal therapeutic or medical treatment, and are not run by licensed mental health professionals, so some people may opt for group therapy or individual therapy instead. Additionally, support groups can depend on the other participants, so a disruptive individual has the potential to mar the group dynamic, and the anecdotal information shared may sometimes be unhelpful or inaccurate. Because it is a group setting, confidentiality can be more difficult to guard and participants receive less personalized attention than they would in an individual therapy session.
