Chronic stress is not a requirement for success in work or relationships. If you are feeling depressed, anxious, or isolated, and/or coping with unhealthy habits, regaining balance is possible. Even the healthiest individuals can struggle to maintain physical, mental, and emotional balance in our high-tech, high-stress culture. In a judgment-free and solution-focused environment, we will work together to help you find more life satisfaction and confidence. I use only evidence-based, reliable practices in a safe, comfortable environment to help you feel better about your life direction.

At the Boston Center for Couples and Sexuality, we help patients to increase the emotional and physical connections in their lives, whether it is with a partner, children, parents, or themselves. Our patients find that we can facilitate their ability to look at tough issues, communicate with others, accept themselves, and reach mutually agreed upon goals. You can learn how to regulate your body, be less reactive, and have empathy and compassion for yourself and others. The only thing you have control over is how you respond in a situation.

Entering into the therapeutic process is a brave endeavor. I consider it a privilege to work with individuals who are searching for ways to be more authentic in their daily lives. So many of us get broadsided by life, be it a sudden death, a near fatal accident, relationship issues, or just a nagging desire to be more joyful! We will strive to unravel the complications that life and any kind of challenge may bring. My goal for you is to learn how to allow yourself to live more fully each day. I firmly believe that every person holds his or her own truth.

Are you feeling stressed? Finding the right therapist is important. I strive to form a strong therapeutic relationship with clients because I believe that clients should be seen as a whole person first. People aren't problems, but rather have relationships to problems, and therapy is a place to explore those relationships in a safe and contained way.

Life can be tough. Trauma, relationships, and brain chemistry may contribute to uncontrollable emotions and the inability to cope with people and situations. It is not easy, and there are no quick fixes, but healing is possible. Everyone is different, and thus therapy should be tailored accordingly to individual needs. Our work will be collaborative to make sure you are getting the support that aligns with your personality, experiences, and goals. My approach emphasizes realistic approaches to meet you where you are.

When sexual issues are a concern, who do you turn to? It could be that you are suffering from a lack of intimacy in your relationship, an inability to experience pleasure or orgasm, or maybe you are wondering if your desires and fantasies are "normal." Have you sought out help only to be told "just live with it" or "sex isn't that important, anyway"? Or maybe your concerns have just been ignored. Do you want real solutions to your sexual concerns? I can help. I have extensive education and a passion for helping couples/individuals explore and regain pleasure.

Life is not easy and sometimes people go it alone. The opportunity to heard, to be understood, and to be accepted is a very powerful one. My aim as a therapist is to provide that opportunity. In over 40 years of practice, I have helped people to understand that survival strategies of the past may now be the source of struggle in their lives. With that understanding in mind it is possible to make changes, alleviate suffering and move through life with greater ease and appreciation. To that end, I incorporate Focusing, Mindfulness, and Cognitive approaches where they may be useful.

I have been a therapist for 10+ years and I'm licensed in both MA and FL. I’m especially passionate about serving clients in the faith community although it is certainly not a requirement to treatment. In particular, I have a special heart for those navigating anxiety and/or depression. I also enjoy providing therapy to clients experiencing life transitions and navigating relational challenges.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
