Welcome, fellow human. I'm so glad you're here. Taking this first step towards healing is a big deal, and you're not alone in this journey. No matter what trauma you are carrying, what grief you are bearing or what relationship challenges you are navigating, you are not broken. You may be feeling disconnected from your authentic self and inner life force. You might feel lonely, flat or exhausted and long to feel whole again. You might identity as intuitive, highly sensitive and/or creative.

As your psychologist, I offer empathy, support and a collaborative approach for fostering goodness-of-fit parenting in your family. That is, I help you to discover the most effective ways for you to parent your unique child.

People come to therapy with complicated feelings. For some, it's a welcome opportunity to share thoughts and feelings that might not feel okay to share elsewhere. Others might view therapy as a humiliating defeat, a sign that they have failed to "solve the problem" alone. I have worked with people at both ends of this spectrum and those in between. In spite of the range of attitudes that mark one's entrance into therapy, my experience tells me that those who give therapy a genuine chance to help them will be helped. This is true even for the most reluctant of beginners.

You’re exhausted and feel lost with sex because you’re never in the mood but feel SO guilty about this and worry there's something wrong with you. You want to WANT to have sex but it's like there's some disconnect between your mind and body. You feel like you’re the problem in your relationship but don’t know how to fix your sex drive because you’re a people-pleasure so it’s really hard for you to think about yourself (and even identify your needs). You feel like you’re seeking help in the wrong places because you’re going in circles which is overwhelming, feels like a constant weight, and is making you feel broken.

You used to feel the fire and excitement in your relationship, but now you feel invalidated, blamed, and frustrated. What happened? Does it feel like you’re in the same room but miles apart? You feel disconnected and lonely, unsure how your relationship got here. Conversations turn into arguments, leaving you feeling dismissed and unheard. The days of blissful ease are gone, and you’re ready to throw in the towel. You want to find your way back to each other, but don’t know how. Without help, your connection will continue to erode. I can help you reconnect.

My clients want to succeed. I explore how they take up their authority/take charge in their personal/professional lives by encouraging them to observe/speak to their experiences – their emotions, body sensations, thoughts and desires – that come to mind. I invite them into an immersive process of noticing our interactions and dynamics that operate below the surface. Lifting these dynamics/patterns to the surface can help clients identify and express how they lose their voice, create rigid or loose boundaries to protect themselves from painful emotions, get stuck in unfulfilling patterns/roles, and have difficulty completing tasks.

I aim to hold a supportive and empowering space for each of my clients. Life is chaotic, so I encourage you to use our sessions as an opportunity to sit with and reflect on what is coming up with you. Oftentimes, clients like to do this by drawing, eating, or moving around during the session in order to really connect with their inner-self. I welcome whatever feels best for you! I have had the pleasure of witnessing clients undergo profound transformations and discover strengths they never knew they had. Regardless of where you are in your journey, I am here to support you every step of the way.

Professional people of color navigating challenging work or educational environments are especially encouraged to reach out for a consultation. If you're experiencing anxiety, impostor syndrome, depression, or simply not feeling at your best—whether due to these factors or others such as financial instability, the challenges of small business entrepreneurship, grief and loss, or caring for aging loved ones and estate planning—we can work together to address these issues. I also find great joy in helping clients reduce stress and anxiety through practicing mindfulness.

I believe people seek help from when they get "stuck" in some aspect of their lives. Through my 25 plus years of practice I work to help others make changes, choices, solve problems, and to grow in order to get "unstuck" and progress. I take an active, interactive, and supportive approach to therapy and use a variety of approaches as needed, sometimes working with the past and always with applications to the present.

How can I find a therapist in 19102?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

Learn more about how to find a therapist

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
