I view therapy as a collaborative process where we work together to reach your goal(s). Together we will identify the problem(s) and figure out a solution. I work with both long-term and short-term issues. Sometimes skills and practice are needed to change the current way of doing things, and other times information or deeper self-exploration is helpful.

I know how difficult the search for a therapist can be. It feels like there's a lot riding on making the right choice, but there's so much uncertainty about what the right choice even entails. Of course you want a professional who seems qualified to address your specific areas of struggle, but it seems to me that the most healing aspect of therapy is the experience of feeling comfortable enough to be radically open with a therapist who you perceive to be compassionate, nonjudgmental, and real. Try to find someone you feel you can click with on an authentic human level; otherwise, it's likely to feel transactional and limiting.

My approach to counseling comes from a desire to create an open, warm and compassionate environment. I believe that the best way to help people with their struggles is to cultivate a non-judgmental atmosphere that empowers individuals and families to share their stories and find lasting solutions. Each client has his or her own story to tell and I love and value hearing each person’s unique story. I strive to work collaboratively with clients to develop achievable goals and find long-term solutions that can be applied outside of therapy.

Hi, I’m Deb. I work with you to understand the "whys” behind your feelings. I’m good at helping you figure out effective responses to dealing with the people and problems in your life. We work together to understand what’s making you unhappy. And more important, we spend time uncovering what makes you happy. Please contact me to see if you think we will work well together.

Hi, I'm Melissa. I'm a licensed counselor in both Washington, DC and CO, and I'm based Denver. As a therapist, I aim to be an ally and a trusted source of support to sit with you through your pain and uncertainty. I've worked with patients and healthcare professionals in a trauma hospital, with members of the U.S. foreign service, and with humanitarians who live and work in high-stress environments. As a mom and spouse of a veteran, I also understand parenting and military-specific challenges. Further, I have extensive experience in grief and trauma.

My therapeutic style is welcoming, grounding, and curious. I aim for therapy to be a collaborative space for authentic exploration, which I approach from a open and curious stance. I believe my clients are the experts of their own experiences, and it is my honor and duty to use my knowledge to assist my clients in unfolding, understanding, integrating, and blossoming into their authentic, functional self. To assist my clients in this process, I often utilize personalized metaphor, analogy, reflection, and humor to both support and challenge each client. Often, my therapy style is described as relieving, exciting, and insightful.

You may want to understand and befriend your emotions instead of distracting or reacting from them. You may have tried traditional talk therapy, but it didn’t work. You may be highly sensitive and care deeply about the world, making you feel overwhelmed, stressed, or burnt out. You might be struggling with anxiety, depression, or substance abuse. You might identify as a member of the LGBTQ Neurodiverse community and want support in navigating societal challenges while still being authentically yourself. You may feel lost or confused about your purpose.

The question I see on the face of almost every new client I meet is: Where do I even begin?! You likely have a complicated story to tell and need someone to help you untangle it, but WOW does that feel daunting. The foundation of my practice is relationally psychodynamic, which is a fancy way of saying I want to help you understand the patterns in your life, help bring to the surface unconscious motivations that have led to self-defeating behaviors, and help you understand how your relationships have affected how you experience trust, safety, and connection. I use humor and metaphor, and value building a strong therapeutic alliance.

I am a white neurodivergent nonbinary trans woman interested in supporting adults navigating life changes of all kinds, with specific attention to collaboration with trans, nonbinary, and (neuro)queer individuals. My hope would be to identify and to build on clients' existing strengths and skills to foster increased confidence, values-based problem solving, and affirming connections in relationships. I defer to practices that root therapy in each client's lived experience and that challenge the ways we often reduce suffering and distress to individual questions of functioning, resilience, and exploitability. I am COVID conscious.

Your mental health is important. How you experience your world and cope with your feelings, influences every part of you. Every person deserves a place where they can share their most challenging experiences, cope with their feelings, and feel empowered to live life. Helping people find motivation to improve their health and well being is my passion. I started my psychology practice to provide a space for people of all ages and backgrounds to begin their paths to self-improvement. I work with people in-person as well as remotely through HIPAA compliant video telehealth technology.

As a Counselor, I am proud to have the privilege to step into the therapeutic space with a warm heart, playful spirit, and open mind. Having worked in a variety of settings over the past 10 years from school-based counseling to county-wide Crisis Response, I have witnessed the full spectrum of the human experience across the lifespan. I am aware how jarring transitions can be, how trauma shatters our sense of self and security, and how disruptive and painful depression and anxiety are in one’s daily life.
