Hello! What if you woke up tomorrow and all your difficulties disappeared? Though hard to imagine, envisioning how you'd like your life to be is the first step in finding solutions. After hearing your story, I focus on strengths (in individuals and couples), and help you see the possibilities for positive change. This can be difficult for anxious or depressed clients, but I find it a good start. I embrace the role of authentic, non-judgmental collaborator. I use techniques that can immediately reduce anxiety, and I show clients that depression is treatable.

My name is Jeremy, and I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. I work with individuals, couples, and families. I have worked with ages 6 to 86 on all issues relating to being hu man and striving for more out of their current situation that has them stuck. I am a Veteran of the U.S. Army. I have traveled the globe in many High-Tech industries, built relationships, and teamed up with people from all walks of life, religions, orientations, identities, and backgrounds before becoming a Therapist. As they say, the best authors are those who have lived life; I feel the same applies to a good therapist.

You're in emotional pain, you have problems you've been trying to solve. You want to feel better, to feel seen, heard, understood. You want to change, feel better.

I am also studying and practicing Nonviolent Communication—a powerful language for emotions and hu man needs—and find this model to be helpful with clients.
In the therapy session, I work to create a safe place to be our true, hu man selves—where both our worst and best qualities will in time be revealed. I work in the here-and-now: exploring your present concerns and goals more than your past history. I know that empathy promotes healing and ask for feedback to be sure my clients feel understood. I provide resources, tools and skills clients can use between sessions. I also work to help people learn self-compassion (see www.self-compassion.org), since that ability is necessary to heal and grow.

I am not a “blank slate”, distant and analyzing therapist. I am present and “in it” with my clients. Being real helps my clients see and experience they aren’t alone. Compassion, empathy, emotional awareness, and heart-centeredness are the fundamental ingredients of my therapy. Mindfulness-based techniques are critical to how I help clients slow down, recognize what emotions are coming up, and better tolerate them. While I have experience working with a wide range of concerns, my main expertise is in couples work, trauma, anxiety, depression, and perfor mance anxiety/stage fright.

Hello, I'm Michael F. Stample, PhD, Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist. I work extensively with individual adults, couples and families. My primary expertise is in mood and anxiety disorders, OCD, dual diagnosis, LGBTQ+ and transgender healthcare. I mostly work with adults over age 17 or 18, through the later years. While psychiatric diagnoses have their uses, I prefer to see my clients as dealing with "problems of living." I work comfortably with psychodynamic, cognitive behavioral and other evidence-based therapies. My early training included internship at the Jung Institute of Los Angeles.

Are you making it through the day, looking to the rest of the world as if you're doing just fine, but deep down inside you feel stuck and uninspired? Do you wonder what is holding you back from thriving in the world? In our hectic world we often find ourselves afraid to take risks that could jeopardize the stable lives we've created for ourselves. We remain in jobs, relationships and old patterns that no longer work, while symptoms such as anxiety, depression, stress, anger and self-defeating patterns keep us from making real changes to our lives.

Whether you are going through a difficult transition in life or have some long-standing issues you're now ready to work on, I'm here to walk along side you. I work primarily with individuals, and occasionally with families and couples. Individually, I help disentangle the complicated thoughts and emotions that can make day-to-day tasks, or even life-changing decisions, feel un manageable.

Insight Care Counseling: The beauty of this -our shared life’s journey- is that we can aspire to embody its greatest gifts -love, fulfillment, clarity and peace. And yet, at times, we encounter challenges and changes that bring forth feelings of stress, depression, anxiety -or numbness and disorientation. And it is often at these junctures that psychotherapy can help; for in essence, the therapeutic journey is about finding richness even while in the land of disenchantment … and healing even while walking through pain.

When making the complex and vulnerable choice to begin therapy, you should be able to trust your therapist and feel safe sharing your story. This is why compassion and empathy are my priorities when building our therapeutic alliance. Together, we will collaborate on an individualized plan for change and growth that is consistent with your values and cultural identities. Every hu man is a unique mix of identities, experiences, fears, dreams, and values. I am well-versed in theory and operate from a foundation of science. However, I also believe that it is essential to recognize the hu manity behind everyone’s struggles and actions.

Male Therapists

As a man, why might I want to see a male therapist?

There are many reasons a man might wish to work with a male therapist, including a degree of shared identity, which may help client and therapist connect to each other and allow for a more free-flowing discussion of issues that can be deeply personal. Some men may feel more comfortable talking to a male therapist about relationship concerns, the pressures they feel around the roles society and family place on men, career or job challenges, self-esteem, or anger problems. For some men who have not had a male role models in their lives, a good male therapist may be especially helpful.

How can I find out about a therapist’s experience treating men?

Individuals looking for treatment should feel comfortable directly asking a therapist about their history treating men overall and the issues that arise in therapy with men. A good therapist will be happy to discuss such matters as well as their educational background, approach to treatment, and how they think they can aid a prospective client. Prospective clients should also ask what the expectation is for treatment, and what the fee structure is, and whether and which insurance plans are accepted.

Can clients benefit from having a therapist of the same gender?

Therapy is not gender-specific, but some men as well as women feel more comfortable opening up about their experiences and history with a male therapist. An individual may feel that they have to explain less background information and be on the same page more quickly, particularly when discussing gender-specific challenges, in the case of male clients. Some women have prior negative experiences with women that predispose them to prefer working with a male in therapy. That said, a good clinician can transcend most if not all gender concerns. Ultimately, the most important factor in therapy is the connection and trust the client is able to build with the practitioner.

Would a male therapist have specific training in treating men?

Generally, no. There are no certifications for treating men specifically, but there are continuing education classes that therapists may take that focus on treating men as a group. There are many therapists who focus on men and male issues in their treatment and therefore have experience and expertise in this domain.
