I work with a wide range of adolescents and adults, in particular those in the LGBTQIA community who are seeking to understand and accept themselves. This process involves self-discovery, understanding and self-acceptance. We can work together through issues such as shame, guilt, low self - esteem, school bullying, verbal/physical abuse, discrimination and the lack of family and societal support. We can also navigate possible conflicts of spirituality and personal values with sexual orientation/gender identity.

I have specialty training in trauma-informed care, co-occurring diagnoses, and exploring attachment dynamics & patterns in relationships. I specialize in affirming and caring for the LGBTQIA+ community and transgender / gender expansive youth and adults, and their families. I engage from a strengths-based, feminist, anti-racist, intersectional lens, while empowering folks to make life changes.

LGBT friendly! All clients are welcome to begin their journey to healing.
Life presents us with many challenging events. It can be difficult to maneuver through the maze of life by yourself. I am here to guide you through this journey with an open heart and an open mind. I have created a judgement free environment, so we can explore your feelings of sadness, anxiety, loss, and any other emotions that you are experiencing. I integrate cognitive behavioral and family systems approaches and interventions. I believe a person's experiences are reflective of their family experiences, and that if a person replaces negative behaviors with positive behaviors, they can better their lives.

In my work, I center the voices of those with minoritized/oppressed identities (e.g., Black people, People of Color, LGBTQIA+, trans, gender-expansive people, and people in nontraditional relationship configurations). I have extensive experience working with adults struggling with anxiety, depression, identity exploration (ethnic, racial, gender, and/or sexual identity), intersectionality, PTSD & Trauma, racial & oppression-based traumatic stress, and relationship concerns. I am also comfortable integrating religion/spirituality into our therapeutic work. My therapeutic sweet-spot is working with Q+BIPOC individuals and couples.

I'm also passionate about the LGBTQ+ community, as well as those who are deconstructing their faith.
As a hermit crab outgrows its shell and leaves it for a more spacious home, so must we. Often we go to therapy when our lives stop working for us. It's in this place that I welcome you. I will be with you as you explore what your heart needs you to shed, where your heart is asking you to go, and the vulnerability of being in the in-between.

Relationships can be a rollercoaster of emotions. One moment you feel in sync, connected, like you could take on the world together and suddenly, a moment of disconnection sends everything into a tailspin, leaving you feeling hurt, misunderstood, and maybe even hopeless. Often, we have genuine intentions when starting a difficult conversation but keep getting stuck in negative communication patterns. While I welcome ALL couples and relationships I specialize in working with LGBTQIA+ couples and relationships. If you are looking for a new way forward together but unsure where to start the healing you have come to the right place.

I am uniquely experienced and trained in the following areas: depression/anxiety, LGBTQIA+ matters (coming out, exploration, identity), in/fertility and reproductive journeys, self-esteem issues, relationship struggles, and ADHD.
Welcome, I'm so glad you're here! I understand that coming to the conclusion that you may need therapy can be difficult. I view therapy as a safe space to process and discuss all of life's chaos. And let's face it, most of us can find benefit in that. My biggest goal as a therapist is to make sure that you get something out of the 50 minutes we spend together each week. I do that by tailoring my therapeutic approach individually to each client. What works for someone else may not be what works for you. We can figure out what works for you by collaborating your expertise on yourself and my expertise and training as a therapist.

I’m a gay therapist who specializes in working with both LGBTQ and straight people who want satisfying lives and relationships.
Life doesn't have to be so hard. LGBTQ people face extra pressures and struggles in life compared to straight or cisgender peers. You want a therapist who will understand what it's like to be an LGBTQ person in Atlanta. I'm a gay therapist, and I have been in Atlanta since 1997. I know what it's like to be a part of our community.

LGBTQ+ Therapists

Do LGBTQ-affirmative therapists receive special training?

Yes. Many therapists who practice LGBTQ-affirmative therapy have completed specialized training, either during their degree program or as continuing education, to learn the core principles of affirmative therapy and how to best support their LGBTQ clients; some have received certifications in LGBTQ-affirmative therapy. Prospective clients should inquire as to a clinician’s background and training to ensure a good fit.

Why might I want to see an LGBTQ-affirming or LGBTQ-friendly therapist?

Queer and gender-non-conforming individuals frequently experience bias and marginalization in day-to-day life. Working with a therapist who understands these unique challenges, as well as accepts and affirms their identity, can help LGBTQ clients feel safe and supported during therapy—allowing them to better navigate their relationships, mental health, and anything else that they wish to explore during therapy. It is important to note that many therapists can be effective in their work with LGBTQ+ individuals, even in the absence of specific training or background knowledge. The most important component in therapy is the alliance between therapist and client, and this alliance can exist between individuals with very different backgrounds.

How can I find an LGBTQ-friendly therapist?

You may wish to inquire about a therapist’s expertise with your specific challenges or concerns—depression, for example, or relationship strife—as well as their past experiences treating LGBTQ+ clients. Prospective clients may also ask whether a therapist has obtained additional training and/or certification in LGBTQ-affirmative techniques.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience with LGBTQ issues?

Prospective clients should feel empowered to directly ask therapists whether they have received training or been certified in LGBTQ-affirming therapy; competent therapists will be happy to explain their educational background and preferred approach(es) to help a client find the best match for them. Clients may also wish to ask how a therapist has treated clients with their particular challenges in the past and what they expect treatment to look like.

Are all the therapists listed in the LGBTQ directory themselves members of the LGBTQ community?

While therapists may choose to disclose their sexual orientation or gender identity in their profiles, the LGBTQ directory features not only those who have shared this information but also those who assert specialized training or experience in providing support to queer individuals, couples or families.
