In times of crisis, parenting can be especially challenging. My goal is two-fold: 1. to provide an expertly-attended, fully-optimized play and talk therapy space for children to work through and gain mastery over challenges, and 2. to help caregivers gain skills and confidence in their ability to support their children's resilience.

As a systemically trained and culturally attuned couples and family therapist, I recognize the impact of our relationships—with loved ones, ourselves, and our broader context— in leading a meaningful life. I will help you identify and change painful patterns that hold you back. And because I believe that therapy is most successful when approached as a collaboration between client and therapist, together we will attend to your relational, self and cultural contexts in order to co-construct wished-for outcomes, find desired meanings and develop expanded perspectives to pressing issues in your life.

The process of finding a therapist can feel overwhelming at times. I invite you here to briefly pause, take a breath, and bring some awareness into the sensations of your body in this moment. What do you notice? Are there particular thoughts, feelings, urges present? Perhaps you notice some hope or frustration, tension or ease. Seeing if you can allow space for whatever may be coming into awareness to simply be as it is, observing it with some curiosity and compassion. When you feel ready, re-connecting to what brought you here, to this page, and to this moment.

Expressing one's self and naming emotions can be exhausting. Specifically men have told me "no one ever taught or allowed me to express myself from when I was a kid". Not being able to communicate and express yourself will eventually stunt growth in relationships and in personal development. However, the arts add a variety and texture to the verbal that can be described, shaped and...transformed. This allows us to return back to the first ways we communicated in our early years which turns into a freeing experience. You begin to engage differently with yourself, others and start to have a clear plan for your wellbeing.

I specialize in helping autistic children, teens, and young adults who struggle with challenges associated with OCD and Anxiety. My approach is grounded in evidence-based, contextual behavior therapies, including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Clinical Behavior Analysis (CBA). I am particularly interested in helping autistic clients find self-determination, vibrancy and meaning - in the face of a social world that does not always understand their unique perspective and potential.

I love to work with clients from any and all backgrounds. I specialize in helping people deal with trauma and its aftermath. I work well with people who have been managing their trauma for a long time, sometimes without any help, but who suddenly decide they really want to overcome their trauma and start living the life they want. Don't be shy to come into therapy for the first time, or for the fiftieth, there is always something new and meaningful to be discovered in therapy.

Therapy is an opportunity to make meaning of our experiences and achieve agency in the here and now. My goal is to partner and collaborate with my clients in that process. I am deeply interested in how we tell the stories of our lives and use those stories to cope, make sense of reality, and understand ourselves. Grounded in trauma-informed psychodynamic and relational practice, I draw from cognitive behavioral, narrative, and mindfulness therapies, with a particular belief in the importance of the therapeutic relationship.

I adapt my treatment approach to meet the unique needs of each of my clients. I centre interpersonal relationships and my clients’ individual strengths, using their agency to guide the therapeutic process. I focus on identifying individual patterns of thoughts, feelings, and behaviors, including how these develop through interactions with others and the environment. I also support clients in exploring their identity and the ways in which the systems around them impact their experience. I support clients in identifying how they want to interact with these systems and working towards these changes.

Why I enjoy Telehealth: I get to know you, your environment, a sense of your life ( I may meet your pets or baby ). To my own surprise Telehealth can feel very personal. If you prefer in-person sessions please indicate in your email. Either way, let's have a phone chat.

Online Therapists

Is online therapy as effective as in-person?

Numerous studies suggest that online therapy can be as effective as in-person therapy. However, further research is needed to determine if online therapy provides the same benefits across all client populations. Individuals with severe mental illnesses, such as schizophrenia or bipolar disorder, or those who may benefit from in-person check-ins, like those with eating disorders, may not experience the same level of benefit from online therapy. Nonetheless, the success of online therapy, much like in-person therapy, often hinges on the quality of the therapeutic relationship between the therapist and the client rather than the specific modality of therapy used.

What are the advantages and disadvantages of therapy conducted online?

One of the main advantages of online therapy is its convenience for both clients and therapists. It also allows clients who require specialized therapy to access a wider range of professionals than they could with only in-person sessions. Additionally, online therapy may be a more affordable option in some cases and often offers the same insurance benefits as in-person therapy. However, online therapy may not be suitable for everyone, especially those who value face-to-face interaction with a therapist. Therapists may find it more challenging to assess clients accurately in an online setting due to reduced nonverbal cues on camera. There is also the increased risk that disruptions caused by external factors, such as technology malfunctions, can hinder the therapy session. For these reasons, many therapists offer a "hybrid" therapeutic approach, alternating between seeing clients in-person and online.

Is online therapy suitable for children and adolescents?

Just like with adults, the accessibility and convenience of online therapy can greatly benefit children and adolescents. In fact, children and adolescents may be more accustomed to navigating online platforms than older adults, making online sessions feel more natural for them. Teens might also be interested in using additional online tools, such as therapist-recommended apps, as an adjunct to online therapy sessions. Apps for developing CBT skills, practicing mindfulness exercises, or tracking thoughts and moods can be helpful for teens receiving therapy. However, it's important to note that not all therapeutic modalities are well-suited to online therapy, especially those used with younger children. For example, play therapy, which helps younger children express their emotions, often requires in-person sessions to be fully effective.

Can I receive prescriptions and medication management with online therapy?

The ability for psychiatrists to prescribe medications through online therapy varies based on the medication and the states where the medical professional and client are located. While many prescribing regulations were relaxed during the COVID-19 pandemic, some states still enforce rules, especially concerning controlled substances, which may mandate an in-person visit before prescribing. Generally, however, medical professionals can prescribe non-controlled substances through online therapy sessions just as they do during in-person sessions.
